OVERVIEW

Transparency International – Moldova (TI-Moldova) as the National Chapter of the world anti-corruption organization Transparency International was registered on June 14, 2000.

One of the main priorities of Transparency International – Moldova in launching an anti-corruption movement is to convene the most pro-active personalities known in the country as promoters of transparency, democracy and accountability – the key principles of anti-corruption activities.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES
  • To strengthen the capacity of independent NGOs to carry out anti-corruption activities throughout the country and to support the efforts of the government to fight corruption efficiently;
  • To organize periodical assessments on the impact of corruption on the social, economic and democratic development of the country;
  • To prepare specific proposals for the government on fighting corruption and to monitor their implementation, in collaboration with national and international institutions specializing in this field;
  • To raise public awareness about the cause and impact of corruption in all sectors of development.
THE MAIN ACTIVITIES
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
  • Analyzing corruption phenomena: its genesis, cause, main forms, country specificity;
  • Carrying out opinion polls and research to evaluate the areas and the level of corruption in the country, the public perception of the existing level of corruption as well as the most corrupt sectors;
  • Investigating the links between corruption and the shadow economy.
ACTIVITIES AIMED AT BUILDING COOPERATION WITH THE GOVERNMENT:
  • Preparation of proposals to prevent corruption in business-oriented politics, fiscal and customs matters, in the judiciary and in public procurement, ethic and professional conduct of civil services;
  • Monitoring transparency in various public sectors, with emphasis on political life;
  • Expertise of anti-corruption legislation.
ACTIVITIES AIMED AT BUILDING COOPERATION WITH THE CIVIL SOCIETY:
  • Lobbying for public access to the information regarding the general effects of corruption in the country;
  • Creation of an information unit and public web-site on corruption;
  • Development of an educational program for schools; reading of public lectures oriented towards increasing awareness concerning corruption;
  • Organization of professional workshops in cooperation with government organizations, private businesses, mass media and civil society on main ways to tackle corruption in public and private sectors;
  • Promoting an educational campaign regarding citizens rights and responsibilities as well as obligations of public servants;
  • Publication of informative bulletins, studies and reports;
  • Preparing TV programs and video spots on integrity and transparency;
  • Organizing a contest for the best article on corruption issues.
ACTIVITIES AIMED AT BUILDING COOPERATION WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS:
  • Conciliatory dialogue between civil society, private sector and the state regarding anti-corruption campaign;
  • Coordination of efforts between legal entities, educational institutions and mass-media in anti-corruption campaign;
  • Participation in national and international campaigns which encourage adoption and implementation of higher standards of integrity and ethics in public services;
  • Collaboration with national public and private institutions, with similar international institutions, including provision of specialized consultation and participation in cooperation and partnership programs;
  • Exchange of experience of combating corruption with other countries.
